What is a Traffic Management Plan (TMP)?
A Traffic Management Plan (TMP) or a Worksite Traffic Management Plan (WTMP) is usually a collection of several traffic guidance schemes (TGS) or traffic control plans (TCP), risk & hazard assessments, analysis of traffic volumes, signage and equipment schedules and at times includes stakeholder notifications. This document is aimed at demonstrating how a certain construction site, an event or a maintenance activity on the road can be carried out without causing a detrimental effect to its existing operations.
A traffic management plan must comply with standards and regulations including Code of Practice – Worksite Traffic Management, Australian Standard 1742.3, VicRoads supplement to AS1742.3 and Austroads Guidelines. A traffic management plan must only be drawn by accredited an TMP drawer. All of RedSquare Traffic’s engineers are accredited TMP drawers. There are several variations of Traffic Management Plans as follows:
Traffic Control Plans (TCP) & Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS)
A Traffic Guidance Scheme (TGS) or a Traffic Control Plan (TCP) is required for any activity which impacts the regular flow of traffic, pedestrians and cyclists on roads and footpaths. These drawings indicate the placement of traffic control signage and indicate clearances to working areas, placement of temporary barrier treatments, merge and diverge lengths and detours (if any). RedSquare’s accredited plan drawers are able to produce these drawings that are compliant with aforementioned standards and regulations. These could be produces as part of a broader a TMP or a WTMP or as a stand-alone product depending on the client’s requirement.
Construction Traffic Management Plans (CTMP)
A Construction Traffic Management Plan (CTMP) is required when operating a construction site that may generate traffic that will impact road safety, regular flow of traffic, surrounding parking facilities, pedestrian & cyclist movements etc. RedSquare’s traffic engineers will sit down with the client and understand how the construction site will affect the road network and will then develop a list of traffic engineering solutions to mitigate these issues. We will then produce a comprehensive CTMP that will assist you with gaining approvals from road authorities. CTMPs are variations of TMPs used specifically for construction sites.
